Indonesian Milkfish (Chanos chanos) Aquaculture Production by Regency, 2019–2024

A curated, region-coded panel dataset of Indonesian milkfish (Chanos chanos) grow-out aquaculture production, derived as-is from the official statistics of the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia (Kementerian Kelautan dan Perikanan, KKP), table "Produksi Perikanan Budi Daya Pembesaran" (fish group = BANDENG). The dataset covers all reporting regencies/cities (kabupaten/kota) nationwide for 2019–2024, with official administrative region codes (Kepmendagri No. 300.2.2-2138/2025) added for stable cross-year joining. The deposit provides: (1) a clean Chanos chanos aggregate table (one row per regency-year); (2) a detailed table retaining all three KKP "BANDENG"-group fish types with taxonomic flags; (3) a region-code crosswalk; (4) reproducible Python scripts; (5) a transformation changelog; and (6) a validation and limitations report. Only the fish type "BANDENG" is treated as Chanos chanos. The types "BANDENG LAKI" and "BULAN-BULAN" are retained in the detailed table but excluded from the Chanos aggregate and flagged as non-Chanos with genus identification pending verification, since KKP does not record species-level identity. Known limitations are documented explicitly rather than silently corrected: the KKP weighted-average price is a coarse annual regency-level aggregate; the panel is unbalanced (61 of 217 regencies are not present in all six years, and missing regency-years are not imputed); the provinces Papua Selatan and Papua Tengah first appear in 2024 following their creation; and small-producer rounding artifacts are preserved as-is. All figures are secondary official statistics reproduced without modification.
