Timor Leste - Seroja Cyclone Assessment Data

A FAO Crop and Food Supply Assessment Mission visited all main food production areas in Timor-Leste from 27 April to 9 May 2021 to provide an accurate picture of the severity and the extend of shocks that affected the agriculture sector this year, so that timely and appropriate actions can be taken by the Government and the international community to minimize the impact of the crisis on the affected population. As per the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MAF) official request for the Mission, the CFSAM assessed the impact of the tropical storm and floods as well as the fall armyworm (FAW) and the African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreaks in the agriculture sector. Given the Covid-19 pandemic and international travel restrictions, the Mission was led by an international expert based in Dili, with the support of GIEWS team in Rome. National consultants were recruited for the field work and MAF Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change Adaptation Task Force members accompanied the Mission in the field. The Mission also benefitted from the contributions of Mercy Corps and Tomak/DFAT who joined the field assessment as observers. The assessment tools were developed in-country and 5 field teams were trained on the CFSAM methodology before travelling to the Municipalities. The teams visited all Municipalities, except the Region of Oecusse Ambeno (RAEOA) where travel remained prohibited due to the pandemic. The situation in RAEOA was assessed through phone interviews with the Agriculture and Fisheries Directorate experts and Development Partners. MAF facilitated the obtention of the required travel authorization to the Municipalities from the Covid-19 Integrated Crisis Management Center.
