The farthest-traveled research visitors this year were from the United Kingdom and Commonwealth Nations, led by Dr. P. J. M. Greenslade of the CSIRO Division of Soils, Glen Osmond, South Australia. His field studies, "Community structure among desert ants", was part of a collaborative project with Dr. D. W. Davidson. They compared seed harvesting ants and their relations with other members of ant communities in deserts of North America and arid Australia. He learned of a potential Deep Canyon site through contacts with Dr. Diane Freckman of the UCR Department of Nematology, a longtime Deep Canyon researcher.
