Livestock Tissue Samples Analysed for Gene Expression Profiles Related to Production

Samples from a range of tissues, including muscle, liver, adipose tissue and blood taken from Australian livestock for research purposes. Samples have been taken from a number of species, including cattle, sheep and pigs. The animals have been part of experiments involving a range of different treatments and/or genetic selection criteria, including, intramuscular fat, tenderness, different diets, exposure to different growth promotants and different genetic compositions. Many of the samples have been analysed for gene expression profiles and data has been deposited in public databases, as well as being available from CSIRO, a number of publications contain results of these experiments. Many of the samples have been collected as part of collaborative projects and/or CRC programs. The main focus of the research undertaken with the samples has been to understand the biological processes underlying important production traits.
