Effect of sucralose on mouse intestinal organoids.

Nowadays artificial sweeteners, such as sucralose, aspartame, acesulfame K, are widely used in processed foods and beverages. However, the effect of these artificial sweeteners onto gut epithelium is not well understood. In this study, we introduced mice intestinal organoids to test whether sucralose could change gene expression pattern of the gut epithelium. Intestinal organoids were supplemented with 0, 1, 10 mM of sucralose and total RNAs were extracted followed by library construction for RNA-Seq. The result of RNA-Seq shows that sucralose, but not other artificial sweeteners, has potential to promote differentiation of endocrine lineages.
