Dataset on the four dominant marine bivalve species from the Western Algerian coast (Mostaganem to Tlemcen)

Purpose:This dataset provides a structured record of the four most abundant marine bivalve species along the western Algerian coast (Mostaganem to Tlemcen). The objectives are to: Document occurrences and abundances of Acanthocardia tuberculata, Donax trunculus, Glycymeris nummaria, and Chamelea gallina. Provide photographic records for each species. Serve as a reference for taxonomic and ecological studies. Support development of AI-based species identification tools. Additional information: Sampling was conducted at low tide on sandy beaches; environmental conditions such as weather and tidal cycles were noted when relevant. Only the four most abundant species are included; rare species were not recorded. Species identifications were verified using classical taxonomic keys and literature and photographs were cross-checked. Sampling description: Manual collection of individuals on sandy beaches during low tide; opportunistic collection of shells on the substrate. Sampling effort: Three seasonal campaigns: summer 2019, autumn 2019, spring 2020.
