Whole chloroplast genomes (after removal of the second inverted region) from the genus Pityopsis were aligned using MAUVE , to use for phylogenetic tree construction. Pityopsis (Asteraceae) has 12 taxon, although disputes are ongoing regarding which taxa are separate species. Helianthus annuus (Asteraceae) was included in the alignment to use as an outgroup.
