Investigating the Effects of Drugs on Animal Gut Microbiota Using Metagenomics

Investigating the effects of drugs on the animal gut microbiome, mice were randomly divided into three groups and subjected to the following treatments: (i) PBS (mock control), (ii) colistin sulfate (CS), and (iii) EBS. Animals were euthanized on day 3 post-treatment to collect intestinal contents, followed by microbial DNA extraction using a commercial kit (Qiagen, Germany). The extracted DNA was used to construct DNA libraries and sequenced on an Illumina platform. After removing low-quality reads and adapter sequences, clean reads were assembled and subjected to taxonomic analysis using Kraken2.
