Length and weight measurements of Risor ruber specimens collected around Carrie Bow Cay, Belize (July 2023).

This dataset contains weight and standard and total length measurements of the reef-dwelling Tusked goby species, Risor ruber, collected around Carrie Bow Cay, Belize in July 2023. Risor ruber species were expelled from their host sponges using a 4:1:1 mixture of clove oil, 96% ethanol, and sea water and euthanised by an overdose of the anaesthetic. The fish samples were then transported back to the Smithsonian Field Station on Carrie Bow Cay where they were photographed, measured, and weighed. These measurements form part of a larger dataset to explore the social systems and habitat use of Risor ruber to determine if the Tusked goby has evolved a eusocial system. Sampling and analysis was led by Principal Investigator Theresa Rueger from Newcastle University and was funded under the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) Discovery Science grant 'Exploring eusociality in a marine vertebrate- relatedness, dispersal and population connectivity in Risor ruber' (grant reference NE/X012514/1).
