The Southern California Social Surveys continued the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area Surveys [LAMAS], conducted between 1970 and 1976. In addition to the core items, this survey focuses on health-related behaviors. The 1988 SCSS focuses on how people feel about life and living in southern California. Topics include, health status, chronic illness, smoking and alcohol consumption, health habits, diet, ethnicity, language spoken, nativity, opinion of neighborhood, socialization with ethnic groups, discrimination, view of the death penalty, political participation, political party ID, financial well-being, major purchases, credit card use, women's rights, TV ownership, VCR ownership, relationship to close friends, sexual preference, social network, educational attainment, union membership, self improvement, basic demographics. There are 1138 respondents.This study is provided 'as is' and questions may be directed to the Data Archive.
