C24-SMT alignment

We reconstructed the evolutionary relationships of animal C24-SMTs from sponges, cnidarians, rotifers, mollusks and annelids, and compared these to previously described C24-SMTs from bacteria, microbial eukaryotes, fungi and plants. Together with the animal C24-SMTs these sequences were trimmed (>200 aa and <400aa), clustered (90% ID), aligned using mafft with ginsi (Katoh et al. 2005) and trimmed with BMGE (Criscuolo et al 2010). IQ-TREE (v1.6.12) (Minh et al. 2020) was used to predict the best-fit models of evolution and to calculate a maximum-likelihood tree with ultrafast bootstrap support values from the concatenated alignment.
