This dataset provides the shapefiles associated with the paper ‘Dynamic Thinning and Grounding Line Retreat in Porpoise Bay, Wilkes Land, East Antarctica’ by Weatherley et al. (Submitted). The dataset is split into 4 folders: Flowlines: This folder includes the ‘Porpoise_Bay_Flowlines’ shapefile containing all four glacier flowlines manually digitised along each main glacier trunk. The individual flowlines can be categorised using the ‘Glacier’ field. Individual flowlines for each respective glacier are found within the ‘Individual_Glacier_Flowlines’ folder. Sampling_Boxes: This folder contains the boxes used to sample ice surface elevation and ice surface velocity. Three sample boxes were digitised across each glacier: FT on the floating tongue, GL on the 2014 grounding line position, and IN 10km inland. The folder contains 4 shapefiles containing the three sampling boxes for each glacier. The individual sampling box can be categorised using the ‘Box’ field. Ice_Shelf_Positions: This folder contains ‘Porpoise_Bay_Ice_Shelf_Positions’ shapefile containing the ice shelf positions manually digitised using GEEDIT (Lea et al., 2018) and ArcGIS from KH-5 Argon (Kim et al., 2007), Landsat-1 (Miles & Bingham, 2023), Landsat-4, Landsat-5, Landsat-7, Landsat-8, Landsat-9, Sentinel-2, and ASTER imagery across Porpoise Bay between 1963 and 2025. The ‘Satellite’ and ‘ImagePath’ fields give more detail on the imagery used for each ice shelf position and the ‘Date’ field represents the date of each satellite image scene. Grounding_Lines: This folder contains the grounding lines, buffers, and inferograms for the 2019 and 2020 grounding lines at Holmes East, within folders ‘2019’ and ‘2020’. The ‘UUID’ field contains information on the interferogram, including dates. These were produced by Sindhu Ramanath.
