JB08 - Marine Biology - South Georgia and Bransfield Strait

The principal objective of this cruise was the study of microbial particulate material, more specifically: (1) A study of bacterial production and activity (2) Examination of microbial grazing in area of South Georgia In addition, the ongoing, more general aims of the British Antarctic Survey, Offshore Biological Programme were addressed: (1) Studies in phytoplankton ecology (2) Horizontal profiling of physical and chemical parameters; both on station and on passage (3) Collection of krill samples for ongoing studies In addition to ongoing studies in the vicinity of South Georgia comparative work was carried out in the region of the Bransfield Strait.
