US Water Levels

**Overview**

US Water Levels is a dataset curated by Divirod Inc. providing access to continuously updated water level data from thousands of locations across the US and its coastline. This product has been specially designed to facilitate local and regional **water risk** assessment from rivers, reservoirs, and coastal areas.

This product includes unified water data from Divirod and public providers in an easy-to-use data schema, which has been subject to a thorough quality process to ensure the consistency and accuracy of the data. Given the changing patterns in climate the current records include historical data of 3+ years. Extended historical data is also available upon request.

The current version of the product contains water level data from more than 12,000 locations. Depending on the location, **new data** is added to the dataset between 1 and 60 minutes.

**Data Engineering Overview**

Each record undergoes a process with four stages to ensure **data quality**:
- Completeness
- Validity of value range
- Continuity of data
- Physical plausibility

Data is **normalized** into one unified type schema:
- All types, dates, and units are standardized
- All null values are normalized to the same value
- All dataset and field names are SQL and Hive compliant

**Data and Metadata**:
- Data is available in a format optimized for high read performance on distributed Hadoop, Spark & MPP clusters
- Metadata for each location (position, provider information, datums, etc.) is provided in JSON or Delta format.

**Data Updates**:
- Data is updated **continuously**.
- As more recent revisions for data become available, they are updated in the Delta table (upsert operations).
