Soil autotrophic bacteria play an essential role in soil C fixation through the Calvin-Benson-Bassham (CBB) cycle to assimilate CO2 concentration. Ribulose-1, 5-diphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase (RubisCO) is responsible for catalyzing the rate-limiting step in CO2 fixation the CBB cycle. The large subunit RubisCO genes (cbbL) have been used as phylogenetic markers to investigate the autotrophic bacterial community.
