Switchgrass (Panicum virgatum L.) is used in conservation agriculture because of its broad geographical distribution and its potential high yields on marginal or low-productivity agricultural lands. We sampled fungi inhibiting roots of four switchgrass cultivars planted at low and high in southeastern Mississippi and MiSeq-analyzed fungal (Internal Transcribed Spacer 2 (ITS2) of the ribosomal RNA repeat) metabarcode markers to evaluate fungal community seasonal dynamics as well as to analyze community responses to switchgrass cultivars and planting densities. These data contribute towards a better understanding of interactions among plants and their associated microbiomes as well as their seasonal dynamics.
