Formal Bilateral Influence Capacity Index

The Foreign Bilateral Influence Capacity (FBIC) Index is built upon the idea that two main factors affect the ability of states to exert influence in the international system. First, the extent of interaction across economic, political, and security dimensions creates opportunities for states to influence each other. Second, the relative dependence of one state on another for crucial aspects of economic prosperity or security creates opportunities for the more dominant state to cause the more dependent state to make decisions that they would not have otherwise made. We call these two sub-indices Bandwidth and Dependence.

双边对外影响力能力（Foreign Bilateral Influence Capacity, FBIC）指数基于以下核心逻辑：主权国家在国际体系中施加影响力的能力由两大核心因素决定。其一，国家在经济、政治与安全多领域的互动广度，为各国之间相互施加影响力创造了契机；其二，一国在经济繁荣或安全的关键领域对另一国的相对依赖程度，为占据优势的一方提供了迫使依赖方作出原本不会选择的决策的条件。我们将这两大分项指数分别命名为互动广度（Bandwidth）与依赖程度（Dependence）。
