Crosses between Slab females and Istanbul males.

For each female, we determined the hatching rate (HR) (i.e., the proportion of eggs that hatched into larvae). The specific cidA-III-β(2) upstream and cidA-III-16 downstream regions were quantified in each female and normalized over the single copy Wolbachia gene wsp. The total cidA and cidB copy numbers were also quantified and normalized over wsp. Infection rates were assessed by quantifying the single-copy gene wsp and normalizing it on the Cx. pipiens single-copy gene ace2 (Berticat and colleagues). (XLSX)
