Sphingomonas sp. QA11 was isolated from an enrichment culture (in minimal medium and darkness) of a quartzite sample collected from a wall inside the Imawari Yeuta cave in Auyan Tepui (Venezuela). This bacterial strain was isolated within a project aimed at characterizing the microbial diversity in the cave and the metabolic activities of the isolated microorganisms.
