This folder contains the instances, detailed results, and solution visualizations found in the paper "Orthogonal delineation of site-specific management zones using estimation of distribution algorithms and disjoint-sets" by Salvador J. Vicencio-Medina, Yasmin A. Rios-Solis, and Nestor M. Cid-Garcia. <br> The site-specific management zone problem consists of dividing an agricultural field into zones where each zone is homogeneous according to a soil property that can be physical or chemical. In recent years, the use of orthogonal zones in an agricultural field has become an interesting study for their easy delineation with standard agricultural machinery. The main contribution of this work is a new methodology based on the Estimation of Distribution Algorithm and Disjoint-Sets that can divide an agricultural field into orthogonal zones. This new methodology improves the solutions presented in the literature where orthogonal zones are used until 71.3% while the computational times also are improved between 3200 - 10000 seconds. Besides, we propose a new set of instances to prove the scalability and robustness of the methodology presented. Finally, we use a simple constant penalization and propose a new reactive penalization with which parameter generalization is possible, while this characteristic is not possible in other similar approaches. Experimental results show that the constant and reactive penalizations have some advantages, one above the other that depends on the homogeneity level required and the size of the instance.
