AHLs as a critical factor for biofilm formation in drinking water distribution systems

our study aimed at determining the impact of AHLs during the initial stage of bacteria adhesion via CDC biofilm reactors to simulate the DWDSs. In addition, the effects of two different pipe materials on biofilm formation in DWDSs and how quorum sensing regulates bacteria to cope with different environment were investigated. Besieds, the formation of biofilms is a dynamic process, so we also monitored the changes in biomass and signaling molecule concentrations in both the initial biofilm phase and the water phase to more comprehensively analyze the process of biofilm formation. The results provide insight into the processes and mechanisms of the biofilm formation in DWDSs coordinated by AHLs.
