资源简介:
Chitosan-based coatings containing Citronella Winterianus essential oil (CEO) or citronellol were electrophoretically deposited (EPD) on titanium substrates. The electrokinetic properties of dispersion systems used for deposition were examined. It was observed that there were only insignificant differences between CEO and citronellol in zeta potential and conductivity. The microstructure of the coatings consisted of droplets of CEO or citronellol in a continuous chitosan matrix. The size of the droplets increased with an increase in the concentration of components in the dispersed systems used for deposition. The addition of CEO and citronellol to the chitosan matrix resulted in the formation of new hydrogen bonds between the components and the chitosan matrix. The increase in CEO concentration in the dispersed systems had an impact on the adhesion of the coating to titanium substrates. Wettability analysis showed that coatings containing CEO exhibited slightly hydrophobic properties. Coatings containing citronellol were hydrophilic but with contact angles close to 90o. The coated titanium had weak bactericidal properties against S. aureus (Gram-positive bacteria); however, they did not show any significant differences in bactericidal properties against E. coli (Gram-negative bacteria). The tested surfaces in comparison to the control did not show a significant cytotoxic effect on the tested lines (MG-63, FaDu).
