Intestinal Microbiome Compostition in liver cirrhosis patients undergoing probiotic intervention

The intestinal microbiome of liver cirrhotic patients is characterized by severe changes in composition and function. These changes might have advere impact on the patients health and outcome, therefore modulating therapies are a clinical need. This study investigated the effects of a 6-months intervention with a multispecies probiotic (Ecologic barrier, Winclove, The Netherlands) on composition of the microbiome of predominantly stable liver cirrhotic patients. The study includes sequences of 16S rDNA isolated from stool samples before, directly after the intervention and a follow-up after 6 months without intervention.
