16S rRNA profiling of a permafrost hypersaline spring. permafrost metagenome

This study aimed at assessing the activity and diversity of the microorganisms inhabiting a perennial hypersaline and subzero (-5°C) permafrost-associated spring in the Canadian high Arctic. The extreme environmental conditions of the site make it an excellent analogue for astrobiology studies and to assess the limits of life on Earth under combined very cold, hypersaline and anoxic conditions.
