The objective was to assess the genetic variability of wheat stripe mosaic virus (WhSMV) in southern Brazil. WhSMV is the causal agent of soil-borne wheat mosaic disease (SBWMD) in Brazil, which is a serious threat to wheat production in the southern part of the country. dsRNA was extracted from five wheat samples from different locations, previously shown to be infected by WhSMV. The data generated five complete genome sequences (RNA-1 and RNA-2), which were analyzed together with previously obtained sequences from GenBank.
