VPRS 14153 Register of Applications, Section 103 Land Act 1898 (Occupation Branch)

Section 103 of the Land Act 1898 dealt with swamp or reclaimed lands such as those at Koo-Wee-Rup and Yarragon. The value of such land could be determined and then be made available for selection in blocks of no more than one hundred and sixty acres.Once this value had been determined for the purpose of fixing rent, the land could be leased under Section 85 of the Land Act 1890, leased under a perpetual lease, leased under conditional purchase lease as set out in the Closer Settlement provisions of this Act (in Part III) or sold at auction under the provisions of Section 3 of the Land Act 1893.The register of applications allocated a fixed number to each application which, if the application was successful became the file number. Details are given of the location and description of the land applied for, the result of the application and, if successful, subsequent file management notations. Rent rolls documenting the payment of rent are held by PROV as VPRS 13947.VPRS 14153 was previously registered as Unit 159 of VPRS 458/P Applications Registers, Land Act Unknown.
