International Comparativ Study of Ethnocultural Youths, 1997

The project's objective was to investigate psychological and socio-cultural adaptability amongst young immigrants in Norway and their parents in a comparative perspective with immigrants in other western countries. The project looked at a variety of aspects concerning adaptability, while special focus was paid psychological and socio-cultural aspects. Analysis has indicated that young immigrants are relatively well integrated. However, differences were found between the five immigrant groups studied. In some groups, there were no difference between the immigrant group and the Norwegian group. The sample was drawn from Oslo, Drammen, Bergen, Trondheim and Stavanger. All Secondary- and high schools in these municipalities received an invitation to partake in the study. Only schools that accepted the invitation, and had students from Chile, Turkey, Pakistan and Vietnam were included in the project. Consent was also given by the students' parents.
