ASKAP Data Products for Project AS311 (A multi-wavelength untargeted search for variables and transient events on minute-timescale): catalogues

This proposal aims to explore the dynamic radio and optical sky simultaneously, searching for variables and transient events in a relatively unexplored parameter space on timescales from seconds to hours. On this timescale transient events usually imply most extreme astrophysical environments, e.g., strong magnetic fields or high-pressured plasma. We have guaranteed access to multiple wide-field, time-domain optical telescopes (with field-of-view up to 38 square degree) located at a similar longitude as ASKAP (easier for joint observations scheduling). The big field-of-view of instruments at both wavelengths is ideal for untargeted search for variables and transient sources. We request 12 h of ASKAP time split into four 3h observations targeted on four dense star fields near the Galactic Plane, enabling higher chance to detect unusual transient events including flaring stars, pulsars (including white-dwarf pulsars), gravitational-wave verification binaries (e.g., ultracompact neutron star-white dwarf pairs), and mysterious Galactic transients.
