This dataset contains soil metagenomic sequences from a study investigating the effects of Moso bamboo (Phyllostachys edulis) expansion on soil microbial communities in subtropical forests. Soil samples were collected from 36 plots representing three forest types: pure bamboo forest (PBF), mixed bamboo forest (MBF), and non-expanded forest (NEF) at the Jinggangshan National Nature Reserve, China. For each plot, composite soil samples were collected from two depths (0-20 cm and 20-40 cm). Total genomic DNA was extracted using the OMEGA Mag-Bind Soil DNA Kit, and shotgun metagenomic libraries were constructed using the Illumina TruSeq Nano DNA LT Library Preparation Kit. Sequencing was performed on an Illumina NovaSeq platform with PE150 strategy. The dataset provides insights into microbial community composition and functional diversity across different stages of bamboo expansion in subtropical forest ecosystems.
