Dataset Overview This dataset contains maximum flood depth measurements collected in the aftermath of the severe flooding event that affected the Kowloon area of Hong Kong during September 7-8, 2023. The data includes both survey-based measurements and numerical simulation results of maximum flood depths. The data focuses specifically on areas surrounding MTR (Mass Transit Railway) stations, providing valuable information for urban flood analysis, infrastructure vulnerability assessment, and disaster management planning. Data Collection Methodology The dataset was developed using three complementary approaches: Physical measurements: Flood marks on walls, buildings, and other permanent structures were measured to determine maximum water depths reached during the flooding event. Community interviews: Local residents and business owners in the affected areas were interviewed to verify and supplement the physical measurements, particularly in areas where flood marks may have been cleaned or were otherwise unavailable. Numerical simulation: Computational hydraulic models were used to simulate the flooding event, providing estimated maximum flood depths across the study area. Comparison Data The dataset includes comparative analysis between the numerical simulation results and the survey measurements, allowing for validation of the simulation model and identification of potential discrepancies.
