Probing magnetic structures in doped honeycomb-like multiferroic, Mn2Mo3O8 and MnAMo3O8

Multiferroics exhibit order of both electronic and magnetic properties of a material. Coupling between the two (magnetoelectrics), means one of the properties can be controlled by manipulating the other (and vice versa). This leads to potential applications in electronics such as memory devices. However, in order to move towards it is essential to understand how these properties arise. We have prepared a series of multiferroic materials based on the general formulae MnAMo3O8 (A = Mn, Zn, Fe and Co). This materials are composed of alternating honeycomb-like Mn/A-O layers (with tetrahedra and octahedra) and trimerized Mo3O13 sheets stacked along the lattice c-direction. The aim of this proposal is to investigate the magnetic behaviour of Mn2Mo3O8 and the doped analogues to provide insight into the magnetic structure and the role of order across the two different magnetic sites.
