SCAPS 1-D Simuation On Solar Cell Using Melanin As Active Layer Absorber

Organic photovoltaics(OPVs) are a developing field due to their biocompatibility and low energy cost in manufacturing. Melanin, however, has not been well explored as a dye due to its high recombination rates. This study explores a unique architecture inspired from perovskite solar cells. Using SCAPS 1-D simulation, a PCE of 4.80% was obtained, which is a major improvement from previous bio-sensitized devices using pigments like anthocyanins.
