The ledger is prefaced by an alphabetical index to the categories of expenditure and income, from Advertising to Valuing. Expenses include rental of the Council’s then office in St. John’s Hall, road maintenance, salaries, and lighting charges paid to the Australian Gaslight Company, as well as the services of a lamplighter. The ledger also includes journal transfers recording revenue items and bank transactions.
