Taste bud organoids have to overcoming challenges caused by localization of taste cell. Zhang et al. show that suspension culture induces translocation of taste receptor cells and alteration of differentiation and renewal rates. This induced taste bud organoid model allows them to serve as a platform for direct calcium imaging, related gene screening and transplantation.
