Soil moisture sensors

Soil moisture sensors of the city of Bamberg. The data were collected in support of the determination of tree health as part of the "BaKIM" project. Together with Bamberg Service, more than 15 soil moisture sensors have been installed in the urban area in order to collect even more precise data in the future in the BaKIM project: On the one hand, it should be determined whether and when drought stress - together as dry soil on the tree - can be detected on images and data from satellites or drones. In addition, the sensors will provide more information on soil dryness in order to adapt the casting routines of urban trees. BaKIM is a cooperation project between the city of Bamberg and the University of Bamberg with the aim of improving the care of urban trees and forest areas. For this purpose, RGB, multispectral and thermal data are collected with a fixed-wing drone, which are evaluated with different AI approaches. The information obtained is to be made available to and verified by the municipal arborists and foresters via a website. As a result, work processes in the two organizations can be improved and the database can be continuously improved and expanded. At the end of the project, further municipalities will be able to use the resulting system and the development of professional free software will be prepared.
