LINGUISTICS: THE LINGUISTIC DEFINITION, CLASSIFICATION, AND DEVELOPMENT DYNAMICS OF THE CONCEPTS OF ARCHAISM AND NEOLOGISM

Abstract. This thesis examines the linguistic nature of archaism and neologism, the ways these two categories are classified, and the mechanisms through which they develop within the overall language system. The central aim of the study is to uncover the relationship that links archaisms and neologisms to one another and to clarify the part each plays in the broader evolution of a language. As its scientific contribution, the paper puts forward a three-stage dynamic model describing the transition between archaism and neologism. The model is illustrated with material drawn from both English and Uzbek.
