Here you can read more about the products Drillholes and Hyperspectral IR https://www.sgu.se/products-and-services/geological-data/orms-and-mineral-geological-data/bore-and-bore-hal/ Description: Hyperspectral IR, data from cores (processed, level 2) consists partly of images taken with high-resolution optical camera and partly of infrared images. Data has been generated by scanning and analysing cores from SGU's archives with regard to the mineral's ability to reflect and absorb different wavelengths of the electromagnetic spectrum. The cameras in the scanner cover the visible spectrum, as well as the short-wave and long-wave portion of the infrared (IR) spectrum. The minerals that make up the core components often provide characteristic signatures in these wavelength ranges, and the combination of short-wave and long-wave IR provides a dataset that has great potential for mineral identification. Information about the mineral composition of a drill core provides knowledge useful for interpretation and modelling of rock origin and geological development. Level 2 represents a processing level where data is clarified for possible further spectral processing and product generation. Note that mineral identification is not included in level 2, but this requires further processing and interpretation of the data. Level 2 data can be further processed to obtain interpretations of the mineral composition in the core. Information about the mineral composition of a drill core provides knowledge useful for interpretation and modelling of rock origin and geological development. In the longer term, the results can provide increased knowledge of ore formation processes and this can enable a more efficient use of the country's mineral resources. Analytical data from drill core scanning can probably also be used for purposes other than ore exploration as a basis for environmental investigations and research. Potential users are exploration companies, mining companies, consultants, researchers and students.
