In the current study, fry of Atlantic salmon were fed a diet with 5% Palmaria palmata in the feed during the first feeding phase. The fish were fed the experimental diet or a control diet until 50 times the initial weight before they received a dietary switch to the control diet. Samples for characterization of the gut microbiota were collected on experimental day 58 and 84. Total DNA was extracted, and amplicons representing the v3+v4 region of the 16S rRNA gene were sequenced on an Illumina MiSeq instrument.
