Transcriptimic analysis of Saccharina japonica gametogenesis

The RNA-seq was performed to investigate the gene expression during maturation in Saccharina japonica gametophyte both male and female. To induce gametogenesis, the culturing medium was replaced from iron-free into iron-rich artificial seawater. And the sample was harvested at 0, 3 and 6 days after adding the medium containing iron and compared the gene expression of iron-free vs. iron repetition. And we investigated the genes related with iron uptake and accumulation and the metabolism of carbon and nitrogen. Due to dramatically formation of flagella in male gametophyte during gametogenesis, we also searched the genes expression involved in flagella formation to specificity with male.
