Pembina River Watershed Water Quality Monitoring Program Data

The goal of the Pembina River Watershed Water Quality Monitoring program is to determine the state of water quality in the Pembina River Watershed over time. This project officially started in 2023, after the Athabasca Watershed Council was contacted by Pembina Pipelines Corporation with financial support opportunities. This water quality monitoring is being completed with the help and guidance of the Pembina River Watershed Technical Advisory Committee (PRWTAC), a group of 13 different organizations that are working in the Pembina Watershed, as well as with the help of Charette Pell Poscente Environmental (CPP Environmental). The objectives of this monitoring are to identify if the water is safe for different uses (agricultural, recreational, drinking water, aquatic ecosystems), and if the conditions are getting better or worse. The AWC and PRWTAC greatly appreciate the financial support of Pembina Pipeline Corporation. Multiple rural communities rely on the Pembina River watershed for drinking water and other uses; continuing this multi-year water quality monitoring project will provide baseline data that can benefit governments, industries, and communities in the future.
