FoxF-1 specifies planarian dorsal-ventral and intestinal muscle fibers in a regulatory program that includes other well conserved transcription factors, nkx2-3, gata4/5/6-2, and gata1/2/3b. Furthermore, planarian FoxF-1 is also essential for the specification of a recently described population of cells expressing high levels of the lysosomal proteases cathepsins.
