The Road Crash Severity Index (SEV) is introduced to enhance road safety research by measuring the severity of crash outcomes through the ratio of deaths to total injuries, rather than relying solely on crash frequency data. This index provides a clearer understanding of the relative risk and seriousness of road crashes, highlighting the effectiveness of a nation's post-crash care and emergency response systems. Data for the SI was sourced from the UAE Federal Government database, while additional socio-economic indicators, such as GDP growth per capita, unemployment rate, and population density, were obtained from the World Bank and UN databases. The study also includes a variable reflecting traffic violation fines in UAE dirhams, which assesses the impact of public behavior and law enforcement on road safety.
