The sample was collected with the permission of Tatyana Gorodkova, Chief Guardian of State Tretyakov Gallery objects, and under the supervision of Mikhail Shitov, Head of the Department of Scientific Restoration of Tempera Paintings. The microorganism was isolated from a 16th-century icon, "The Resurrection as the Descent into Hell, with the Personification of Sins in Hell," sample number 5.
