Breakthrough

Breakthrough Listen (BL) is a ten-year initiative to search for technologically-capable life beyond Earth. The BL program searches for anomalous signals in ultra-fine resolution data products, which are produced by custom signal processing systems installed at partnered telescopes. Australian telescopes, including the CSIRO Parkes 64-m telescope, and the Murchison Widefield Array (MWA), form a core component of the BL program. Storing and analysing the ultra-resolution data products from these telescopes is challenging. A majority of data (several petabytes), are currently stored at the University of California Berkeley, and with local storage at the telescope sites. A selection of data from the Parkes telescope (~80 TB) is currently stored under the existing 'Breakthrough' allocation at Pawsey. (http://www.breakthroughinitiatives.org)
