Childhood Friendships in 20th Century Finland 2018-2019

This dataset consists of 65 texts written on Finnish childhood memories of friendship from the 20th Century. Data collection was organised by the Finnish Literature Society and researcher Antti Malinen. In the writing guidelines, the participants were asked to write about their own childhood, concentrating on themes such as the meaning of friends and what they discussed or did with their friends as a child. Suggested themes to discuss also included bullying, loneliness and the participants' social relationships at school. Additionally, the participants were asked to discuss the influence adults had had on their childhood friendships. Background information included the participant's name or pseudonym, occupation, year of birth, area of residence and gender. The data were organised into an easy to use HTML version at FSD. The dataset is only available in Finnish.
