The Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) has identified approximately 1600 acres of land for a Class III (intensive) cultural resource survey for Section 110 inventory purposes. The land was withdrawn for the Salt River Project (SRP) and is located upstream from the Granite Reef Diversion Dam on the south side of the Salt River. The withdrawn land is within the Tonto National Forest (TNF).
At the request of Reclamation, Archaeological Consulting Services, Ltd. (ACS) conducted an intensive cultural resources survey of the project area to provide an inventory and assessment of cultural resources that might occur within the parcel. The fieldwork was conducted between May 31 and June 23, 2005, by Donald W. Jolly, Andrew B. Bockhorst, Paige Barlow, Tom Dorsey, Shawn Fackler, and Jeff Roberson, working under noncollection permit MES192 issued by TNF. Sixteen sites and 266 isolated occurrences were identified.
