资源简介:
Pollen, macrofloral, and protein residue samples were examined from site 42WN2489,
located in the upper Fremont River Valley in Wayne County, Utah. The prehistoric component
of the site consists of three distinct clusters of cultural material. The site is associated with
Archaic Pinto Series projectile points, which generally date to 8300-6200 BP in stratified cave
contexts in Utah. Ten pollen and nine macrofloral samples were collected from Feature 2, a
pithouse in the area designated Lithic Cluster 2 (LC-2). Conventional radiocarbon dates of
4460 ± 60 BP (Beta-205681), 4160 ± 40 BP (Beta-205682), and 4050 ± 90 BP (Beta-205683)
were acquired from three wood charcoal samples collected in Feature 2. A Pinto projectile
point and a biface from the pithouse also were submitted for protein residue analysis. Pollen
and macrofloral analyses provide subsistence information concerning plant resources utilized
by the various occupants of these sites. Protein residue analysis of stone tools can yield
information about use of possible animal resources.
