This study employs the coastal waters around Meishan Island as a model to conduct time-series monitoring and investigate the spatiotemporal dynamics of total and active planktonic archaeal communities through 16S rRNA gene and 16S rRNA sequencing. The primary objective is to elucidate the spatiotemporal distribution patterns of planktonic archaeal communities in the adjacent waters of a typical multifunctional coastal island. Furthermore, the study aims to resolve the assembly mechanisms of planktonic archaeal communities at a localized coastal scale by examining ecological processes, regulatory drivers, and potential microbial interactions. Ultimately, the findings are expected to deepen the understanding of the distribution patterns, dynamic changes, and activity characteristics of planktonic archaea within the land-sea transition zone and to provide insights into the microecological impacts of anthropogenic activities on archaeal diversity and activity in adjacent coastal waters.
