FHWA Crash Roadway Characteristics

Project Description The NDS crash roadway characteristics data set was developed to complement the RID data set by matching SHRP2 NDS crashes via spatial analysis. This method is primarily based on analyzing spatial proximity between matching features on a map, supplemented by common attribute comparison and manual quality control. Data Request Scope All SHRP2 NDS crashes. Data Specification Each of the following RID feature classes was matched to SHRP2 crashes: Links, RailCrossing, Alignment, Barrier, Lane, Lighting, Location, MedianStrip, RouteIntersections, RumbleStrip, Shoulder, Signs, Sections, and Tops. A table for Trip Density representing the total number of NDS trips at each crash location was also generated. Two versions of the data set have been created, one that has had PII (in terms of location) removed and another with PII links included.
