California Wildfire Perimeters with Environmental and WUI Attributes

This dataset contains processed fire perimeter records from four wildfire datasets: the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CalFire), Monitoring Trends in Burn Severity (MTBS), the Global Fire Atlas (Atlas), and the FIREDpy-based country-level dataset (FIRED). CalFire and MTBS records span from 1990 to the most recent available year, while Atlas and FIRED are derived from MODIS imagery and cover 2001 onwards. CalFire records are limited to fire events larger than 1 km². The CalFire dataset retains the most complete attribute information, including environmental variables associated with each fire event. For all four datasets, WUI classifications are assigned by intersecting fire perimeters with WUI boundaries. In addition, ignition-based WUI classifications derived from the Global Fire Atlas ignition points are provided as a separate GeoPackage (.gpkg) file. The four perimeter datasets are provided as compressed Shapefiles. Additionally, a separate GeoPackage (.gpkg) file is provided containing Global Fire Atlas ignition points with ignition-based WUI classifications. These data are intended to support research on fire size distribution, fire behavior, land-fire interactions, and WUI risk assessment.
